Echoes in the Rubble

Song written and composed by Melanie Bradley

Take note that the lyrics written are a tad bit different from the song I sang, I tend to do that, when singing, I kind of just let my heart go with the words and stop following a written script.

Verse 1) The ancient stones of Gaza weep with rain of shattered glass, A sad mother holds her child, as heavy moments pass. But will those heavy moments ever end? The olive trees stand silent, watching skies of endless grey, Another generation prays, to see a different day. A different day in a new kinda way. The people in America are outside of Palestine and we are watching, through a blurry, distant lens, But in Palestine, the sound of silence is the one that never ends.

(Chorus) Oh, Palestine, my heart cries out with you, For every shattered window, and for every sky of blue. I wish for peace to break the chains of sorrow and of fear, For every human spirit to find solace and a tear, To mend the broken futures, and the wounds that run so deep, For in this holy land, a promise, we must learn to keep.

(Verse 2) The children’s laughter echoes from a time long since gone by, Before the rubble rose to meet the cold and bitter sky. The stories of the ancestors, their struggles and their plight, Are told in whispers, in the fading light of night. They tend the land with weary hands, the earth they hold so dear, And plant a seed of courage in the face of all their fear.

(Bridge) How many walls must stand between a soul and its release? How many wises must rise before the sound of silence cease? The world must not look away, must not pretend it’s blind, The hope for peace, a precious gift, for all of humankind.

(Outro) Oh, Palestine, may you find peace, and find it soon… Beneath the starlight and the gentle, hopeful moon. May hope arise, a promise and a bond, And may your heart beat strong, and carry on.
