The Scars We Get

Composed by Melanie Bradley

(Verse 1)
The sun came up this morning, a weight I couldn’t hold,
Another heavy chapter, a story getting old.
The road ahead is broken, the hills are hard and steep,
And all the promises I made are buried, oh so deep.
I’m just a tired soldier, fighting through the night,
But a little bit of morning still finds a way to light.

(Chorus)
And I am grateful, for the breaking of the day,
For a breath that I can take, to wash the pain away.
‘Cause life, it does get better, even in the weakest moments,
Yeah, it’s all gonna get better, the sun is on its way.
I’ve been through the worst, and I am still here,
And every day is a brand new start, to wash away the fear.

(Verse 2)
The rain is falling softly, a gentle, mournful sound,
It’s washing all the worries from this cold and lonely ground.
And in the quiet moments, in the silence and the shade,
The strongest parts of me are finally being made.
The lessons from the darkness, the strength from all the pain,
Are a gentle, hopeful promise, that I’ll get to live again.

(Bridge)
The scars I have are stories, of the battles that I’ve won,
And the courage in my heart will be a brand new, lovely sun.
And all the struggles in my life are a whisper in the wind,
A promise of a new start, and a hope that will not end.

(Outro)
Yes, it’s all gonna get better…
The sun is on its way…
And I am grateful…
Every single day…
Yes, so grateful…
And so full of grace.
