Happiness is Like a Butterfly

Composed by Melanie Bradley

(Verse 1) The sun came up this morning, a gentle shade of gold I saw it through my window, a story to be told I watched the people laughing, a feeling light and free And wondered why that golden light won’t shine for me They say it’s just a mindset, a choice you have to make But every time I try to choose, my fragile spirit breaks I’m searching for the color, in a world that’s black and white A whisper of the morning, in the silence of the night.

(Chorus) ‘Cause happiness is a butterfly, and you can’t force it to land It’s a distant, humming melody, in a far-off, promised land It’s a puzzle with a piece that’s missing, a key without a door And some of us keep searching, but can’t find it anymore.

(Verse 2) I see the couples walking, holding hands and full of grace And a bitter little pang goes through me, in this lonely, silent place I try to find the joy in simple things, a cup of morning tea But the ghost of what I’m missing, is all that I can see I’m not asking for a miracle, or a life that’s shiny and new Just a moment of the sunshine that seems to bless all of you Just a flicker of the feeling, that makes you feel alive A reason to believe in, and a reason to survive.

(Chorus) ‘Cause happiness is a butterfly, and you can’t force it to land It’s a distant, humming melody, in a far-off, promised land It’s a puzzle with a piece that’s missing, a key without a door And some of us keep searching, but can’t find it anymore.

(Bridge) They say that all the good things, come to those who wait But waiting in the darkness, just feels like sealed fate And I know it’s not a person, or a place I have to find It’s just a simple feeling, in the corners of my mind.

(Outro) So I’ll keep searching for it, in the stories and the songs Even if it feels like a place where I don’t belong Yeah, I’ll keep on looking… For that feeling… and I’ll find it… somehow.
