A Quiet Unseen Battle
Composed by Melanie Bradley
(Verse 1)
The world outside is quiet, just a soft and gentle breeze,
But in my head, a constant humming, rustling through the trees.
It’s not a sound that others hear, it’s just a ghost for me,
A shadow always standing there, for all the world to see.
I smile and say I’m fine, and hold my head up high,
But there’s a quiet tremor, and a storm inside my eye.
I’m living in a fortress, with a fragile, glass-like wall,
And just a single whisper is enough to make it fall.
(Chorus)
Oh, this is an unseen battle, a quiet, lonely fight,
You see the person standing in the sun, but not the long dark night.
You see me breathing calmly, but my heart is running wild,
A silent, broken soldier, a fearful little child.
So when you feel that whisper, and you’re fighting all alone,
Just know I’m right beside you, and you’re carved in my own stone.
(Verse 2)
A simple invitation, to a party with some friends,
Can feel like a demand, that the quiet simply ends.
The sound of someone talking, gets lost inside my ears,
And all I hear is humming, from my endless, private fears.
I want to laugh and listen, and hold my head up high,
But all I feel is silence, and a question in my eye.
I’m a ship that’s lost its anchor, a rudder in the storm,
I’m trying to find the compass, and a place that’s safe and warm.
(Bridge)
Then in the quiet evening, with a friend I hold so dear,
They say a simple sentence, to wash away my fear.
“It’s okay to feel this way,” they say, “you don’t have to be strong,”
And in that quiet moment, I know I’m not so wrong.
The humming fades to silence, the shadow disappears,
And I find a piece of quiet, in the falling of my tears.
(Outro)
So if you’re fighting this battle, on a battlefield of one,
Just know I’m right beside you, until the day is done.
You are not alone, a quiet, gentle voice,
And you are not alone, you have a gentle choice.
Just reach out…
You are not alone…
You are not alone.
