Just a Little Kindness

Composed by Melanie Bradley

(Verse 1) I see you standing there, with that frown upon your face, Whispering words that echo in this very time and place. “Why are they so quiet? Why don’t they ever smile?” You see a life that’s standing still, a wasted, lonely style. You see the empty chair, the shades that are all drawn, And you decide their story, before the break of dawn. You see a person sleeping in the middle of the day, And you just shake your head and look the other way.

(Chorus) Oh, the moral of the story is, don’t you ever judge, The human heart is more than just a passing grudge. There’s a quiet battlefield that you can never see, So don’t you ever question, the silence in me. Just a little kindness can make a world of light, So don’t you judge me in my darkest fight. ‘Cause a heavy spirit’s a lonely, heavy thing, And it doesn’t need your judgment, it needs a chance to sing.

(Verse 2) You think I’m lazy, or I’m just too weak to try, You don’t see the fire, that rages in my eye. You don’t see the prison, where my spirit is held bound, You just see a person on an empty patch of ground. You say I’m hurting you, when I can’t find a word, But every cruel judgment is the one that I have heard. I want to laugh and dance, and run and feel the breeze, But I’m just living on my knees.

(Bridge) You think I’m doing this to hurt you, but it’s not who I am, It’s a broken, lonely signal, from a dying, broken lamb. I see the love you’re giving, and it’s a beautiful, soft light, But sometimes even hope itself is hard to win the fight. So just for a moment, try to see the other way, A little bit of kindness could save a life today.

(Outro) So just a little kindness… Could save a life today… It’s all you need to do… To light the way…
