Silent Soldier

Composed by Melanie Bradley

(Verse 1)
The streets are changing, every single day,
The old familiar faces all have gone away.
The world is spinning faster, than it ever did before,
And I’m just standing here, outside a closed door.
The music’s not the same, the words all feel so new,
And I’m a quiet ghost, just trying to get through.
My heart is feeling heavy, like a stone on the ground,
And happiness is something that just can’t be found.

(Chorus)
Oh, this changing world, it takes a heavy toll,
It’s hard to find a footing, to feel a sense of soul.
I’m just a silent soldier, in a battle I can’t win,
Fighting for a purpose, in a world I can’t live in.
There’s a moral to the story, if you can only see,
That happiness is a memory, that I just can’t keep for me.

(Verse 2)
The headlines are all screaming, of a world in bitter strife,
And all I feel is sorrow, from the chaos of my life.
I’m trying to be better, and I’m trying to be strong,
But all I feel is tired, and a constant sense of wrong.
The sun is shining brightly, but I’m just in the shade,
A lonely quiet echo, in a parade that I have made.
I see the people smiling, with a happiness so deep,
A secret that they’re giving, and a secret that they keep.

(Bridge)
The moral of the story is, the world won’t stop for you,
And happiness is not a thing that’s shining, bright and new.
It’s a quiet, gentle courage, a strength you have inside,
It’s finding a reason to live, and giving up your pride.
It’s not about the world, it’s about what you can be,
A fighter and a hero, for a heart that wants to be free.
Yes, it’s coming back…
And I will fight…
For me…
And I will win this fight…
I will win…
This fight.
