Reasons Why Not Having a Tan is Just as Pretty as Having One

Do you see the picture above? To me, that looks like a lot of fun and the benefit in my book is the fact that it does not show the sun blaring down on you (like the beach does). This picture looks peaceful and maybe even the best place to meditate and relax. Let me explain the reason for writing this article, I have a friend that emailed me and explained to me that the summer months are here and she is not going to feel comfortable around her friends because they make stabs at her for not having a tan and being “just too white.” Let me explain to you, if you think you are just too white or if someone even tells you that your complexion is just too white, do not let their words get to you, don’t let them bother you. In the end what matters is 1. You don’t have to worry about the dangers that the sun can bring you and 2. you’re beautiful in the skin you were born in.
Now, let me move forward to explaining to my readers why not having a tan is perfectly fine.
In a world where sun-kissed skin is often celebrated as the epitome of beauty, the allure of not having a tan is frequently overlooked. While many pursue bronzed skin through beach days and tanning products, there are compelling reasons why embracing a natural, untanned complexion can be refreshing and beautiful in its own right. Here are several reasons why not having a tan is pretty.
1. Radiance of Youthfulness
A lighter skin tone often exudes a sense of youthful vitality. Many cultures equate fairer skin with innocence and freshness, characteristics that can evoke feelings of playfulness. The smooth, unblemished appearance typically associated with untanned skin can enhance an individual’s overall radiance, allowing them to embody a timeless beauty that is often sought after in the realm of fashion and artistry.
2. The Charm of Contrast
Not having a tan often means that one’s skin tone can provide a striking contrast with the colors of clothing, accessories, and makeup. Lighter complexions can amplify vibrant hues, making bold colors pop and creating a visually stunning effect. This contrast allows for creative expression through fashion choices that can be both striking and sophisticated, emphasizing the person’s personal style.
3. A Canvas for Artistry
Untanned skin serves as a beautiful canvas for makeup application. Artists often appreciate the opportunity to work with a lighter base, as it allows for a broader range of colors to be utilized without being dulled by pigmentation. Whether it’s a classic red lip or a dramatic smoky eye, those with lighter skin tones can play with makeup trends to highlight their features and create artistic looks that captivate.
4. An Emphasis on Natural Beauty
In a society that often champions artificial enhancements and modifications, choosing to embrace a natural look can be a powerful statement. The decision to forgo tanning can symbolize self-acceptance and a celebration of one’s inherent beauty. This authenticity resonates well with many people, promoting a more positive body image and encouraging others to appreciate their own natural features without the need for conformity.
5. Health Considerations
There’s no denying that excessive sun exposure poses serious health risks, including skin cancer and premature aging. By not seeking a tan, individuals prioritize their skin health and well-being. Maintaining a natural complexion can also reflect a commitment to a healthy lifestyle, which is increasingly valued in modern beauty standards.
6. A Nod to Diversity
Not having a tan can represent the rich diversity of human beauty. With varying skin tones existing around the globe, each unique complexion contributes to a broader understanding of attractiveness. Celebrating lighter skin tones alongside darker ones fosters an inclusive perspective where all forms of beauty are appreciated, reinforcing the idea that beauty is indeed subjective.
7. Timeless Elegance
Finally, an untanned complexion can convey an air of sophistication and elegance. Classic beauties such as Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly were known for their porcelain skin, which became iconic in the fashion industry. Embracing a lighter skin tone can evoke the same sense of elegance and class, reminding us of beauty’s historical roots beyond current trends.
In conclusion, not having a tan is undeniably pretty for numerous reasons. From the charm of contrasts to the celebration of natural beauty and health, embracing an untanned complexion can be a powerful expression of who we are. Let us cherish the beauty found in every shade and celebrate the uniqueness of our appearances.
Ending Note to my Readers from the writer …
I have Lupus Nephritis and MUST avoid the sun. In return, the sun makes me sick. Think of it this way, instead of omg my skin is being burned by the sun, it’s the fact that my kidneys face the effect of the sun. So guys, before you go making fun of someone because of their complexion being just too “pail,” please refrain from making such statement because you never really know what the human you choose to judge is going through and you do not know why their complexion is super pale. In the comment section, if you feel the aggravation of being “too pale” please explain to me why you feel this way and I will help you acknowledge that you should be happy with the body you are born in. Life is just too short to worry about the pigment of your skin (or the one next to you), just be happy, look in the mirror each day and recite these lines “I am beautiful the way I am.” After some time of telling yourself this, you will start to believe it and cast the rude comments out of your mind because in all actuality, their opinion really does not matter. So keep smiling and live life …
